This is the living room of our house. This was the third room to be finished. There are a lot of photos on this page, simply because the living room has undergone so many changes. The chimney breast in this room is very deep. This would've housed the range in the early days, and this room would've seen most of the action in the house in general.

living room 1 The living room as we found it. Note the cupboard and remember to look at the main bedroom page later! We took up these quarry tiles in great number and relaid them in the hall.
Digging in the dirt! Suddenly the floor dropped away by 12"! We had to dig out a foot from all the floors downstairs (thanks heaps, Mr Building Regs!). living room 2
living room 3Then we had to put back 4 " of hardcore and 2" of sand. The sand-layer is Richard, my cousin, and his audience in the doorway are Uncle Barrie & Auntie Pat (and they'll love me for calling them that!!).
And just when you thought it was over, we had to put a damp-proof membrane over the sand and then lay 2" of polystyrene on top of that! And it was a race against time, as we had to finish in time for the concrete delivery. living room 4
living room 5 My dad sloshing around in sloppy concrete - this was one of the fun bits of renovation!
Just testing it's set. Note the central heating - one electric fire in the middle of the room :-) For the more observant amongst you, the wooden bits in the floors are channels we put in in advance for central heating pipes and electric cables. All of the electric, alarm, phone and co-ax cables are let into the plaster or hidden under the floor. living room 6
